Namma Ooru Namma Palli – School Infrastructure Improvement Project

NSNA H & H Committee would like to introduce our flagship project "Namma Ooru Namma Palli". The project aims to improve the infrastructure of schools in Nagarathar Villages. Some of the things that will be covered under this initiative include smart board installation, construction of bathrooms, kitchen etc. to name a few. We are executing this project in partnership with Tamil Nādu govt. under the scheme called "Namakku Naame Thittam". Under this scheme, projects we support in govt. schools will receive matching funds from Tamil Nadu govt. in the form of 1:1 or 1:2 depending on the type of project. We are confident that we are creating highest value with this execution model.

You can support this noble cause in one the following ways to make this dream project a reality and transform the schools in Nagarathar villages:

  1. Donate to fulfil the needs for a school in your village or village of your choice.
  2. Champion fundraising activity for a school in your village or village of your choice.

We look forward to partnering with you to implement this project on a greater scale. Let's join hands as we embark on this journey to make a meaningful difference in the lives of those less fortunate.

If you would like to upgrade the school in your village or a village of your choice, under "Namma Ooru Namma Palli" project scheme, please contact: healthhumanitarianchair@achi.org

North America Initiatives

Our North America initiatives include Webinars and Health related topics and Annual 1K/3K/5K Fundraising Walk-Run.

Webinar

The theme for the upcoming Webinars for the term 2023-24 is "Alternate Medical Treatments". The most common method of treatment used today is "Allopathy". However, there are other forms of medical treatments that can be beneficial for certain conditions. We aim to create awareness of the different kinds of alternate medical treatments that are available and provide some fundamental knowledge on each so that the user can make an informed choice. Speakers will consist of medical/ alternative care practitioners in their respective specializations. We are not promoting one form of medicine over the other; but rather are looking to raise awareness on different forms of medical treatments available by, imparting some basic knowledge.

Webinars are planned on the following topics:
Intermittent Fasting
Naturopathy
Acupuncture
Siddha

The first of the four Webinars is planned in the Summer of 2023. Stay tuned for more details.

1K/3K/5K Walk/Run

H&H Committee will be organizing 1K/3K/5K Walk Run in partnership with Sports & Fitness Committee in late Summer-early Fall. This is an annual fund-raising event, and the proceeds go towards supporting Medical Applications.

NSNA Emergency Fund

What is an NSNA emergency fund?

NSNA has created an Emergency Fund for the benefit of US Nagarathars to help them in times of need. To that end, a sustainable fund of $30K has been created and is managed by the Health & Humanitarian Committee.

What is considered an emergency?

  • Death of a breadwinner of the family
  • Life threatening emergency to Nagarathars or their visiting parents
  • Actual life changing events leading to financial distress (e.g., natural calamities, legal issues etc.)
  • Divorce, where the partner has no source of income and needs money for living expenses or for children’s education.
  • Dire need of funds for safe passage back home (India)

Who qualifies?

  • Any Nagarathar living in USA, regardless of their membership status.

Application Process

  • Grant/Loan request should come through Regional Rep or any Nagarathar who will complete an online form at achi.org
  • Additional unrelated NSNA member needs to second the request.

Financial Process

  • Grant/Loan is limited to $10,000 per family (Loan means the recipient is obligated to pay back the money. A Grant is a donation since it is expected that the recipient has no means to pay back the money).
  • A maximum of 3 families can be supported per calendar year, on a first come first serve basis.

(Additional help in the form of community, legal and additional fundraising efforts by GoFundMe will be made available if possible)

Decision Process

  • NSNA 16 member EC will decide by majority vote.
  • Verification of distress is through Nagarathar network.
  • If time is of the essence, the President, Treasurer and H & H Chair will have the authority to approve disbursement of funds without the full EC approval.
